The Kern County Museum features the history of Bakersfield and Kern County. On 16 acres, Pioneer Village is home to nearly 50 original structures from all around the county that depict life in the late 19th century. Other features include Lori Brock Children’s Discovery Center, the Black Gold exhibit, and Neon Plaza. The Beale Memorial Clock Tower, which is situated on the lawn in front of the museum, is one of its most distinctive buildings. The clock tower was built in 1904 in the middle of the intersection of 17th Street and Chester Avenue. After being demolished in the 1952 earthquake, it was reconstructed at its current position 1964.
