Chester Avenue, Bakersfield, California
Beale Memorial Clock Tower is a clock tower gifted to the city of Bakersfield from Truxtun Beale, in memory of his mother. It was built in the middle of the intersection of 17th St. and Chester Ave., and was dedicated on April 4, 1904. The clock tower was severely damaged in the 1952 Kern County earthquake and local authorities decided to demolish it. The tower seen today in the city of Bakersfield is its replica and the work of a group of local citizens who rebuilt it in 1961. The new clock tower was constructed in front of the Kern County Museum on Chester Avenue, about 1.25 miles north of its previous location.
