Kern Veterans Memorial – Location on Map

515 Truxtun Avenue, Bakersfield, California

The Kern Veterans Memorial is a monument that honors all Kern County residents who served in the armed forces. It’s on the corner of Truxtun Ave. and S St. in downtown Bakersfield. John Cohrs designed the memorial. It’s a circular plaza with two paths leading to it. The outer path is flat, whereas the inner path climbs to a higher level. A fountain, made of granite and glass, sits in the center, spiraling upward to a point. The inscription on the granite says, “To honor all those who served.” There are nine flags along the memorial’s outside path. They are: United States of America, State of California, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines, and POW/MIA.
