Stockdale Highway, Bakersfield, California
The area northwest of central Bakersfield, between the Kern River/Stockdale Highway and State Route 99, is known as Northwest Bakersfield. Historically a rural area, it had significant growth in the mid-1990s, which has continued to this day. Fruitvale, Rosedale, and Greenacres were once independent communities that are now surrounded by the city borders. The Northwest Promenade is a significant shopping center.
