The area northeast of Bakersfield is referred to as Northeast Bakersfield. Despite the fact that development began in the 1950s, much of the region is still rural. The Northeast is primarily middle and upper middle class. Some of the oldest development in this area is located along Panorama Drive and Niles Street. The Kern River Oil Field is visible from Panorama Drive, which runs along the cliffs. The Kern River County Park, which includes Hart Memorial Park, the California Living Museum, Lake Ming, and the Kern River Golf Course, is accessible via Alfred Harrell Highway. The Rio Bravo Country Club and the Bakersfield Country Club are also located in this part of Bakersfield.
