Mill Creek is a newer neighborhood in Downtown that is continuously being developed. Mill Creek will have a combination of low and high-density residential, business, and retail when it is finished. This neighborhood follows the man-made Kern Island Canal, which has been remodeled to resemble a natural river. The Bakersfield Museum of Art is a popular tourist destination in the area. The Kern County Library System’s headquarters, the Beale Memorial Library, is also located in Mill Creek. Another important structure is the Amtrak station, which is Bakersfield’s rail link to the San Joaquin Valley.
